Acceptable use and fair usage

Shared hosting means your website sits alongside other people's, so we ask everyone to use our servers fairly and legally. This is a summary of our Acceptable Use Policy and Fair Use and Backup Policy. The full policies apply.

The rules cover everything you host with us, everything you send through our network and anyone you allow to use your account.

Content that isn't allowed

You must not store, publish, link to or distribute:

  • content that's unlawful under Malaysian law (or Singapore law, if your service is hosted in Singapore)
  • child sexual abuse material, in any form, without exception
  • material that infringes copyright, trade marks or other intellectual property
  • malware, viruses, ransomware, exploit kits or tools mainly meant for unauthorised access
  • phishing pages, fake login screens or pages designed to be mistaken for another organisation
  • content that incites violence, terrorism or racial or religious hatred
  • fraudulent schemes, such as fake shops, investment scams and money-laundering fronts
  • material that's defamatory or that harasses or threatens an identifiable person

Activities that aren't allowed

  • Spam: sending unsolicited bulk email or supporting a spam operation hosted elsewhere
  • Mailing list abuse: mailing purchased, scraped or unverified lists. Every mailing needs a working unsubscribe link.
  • Network attacks: port scanning, denial of service, brute-force attempts, packet sniffing or trying to access systems you don't own
  • Cryptocurrency mining and blockchain nodes of any kind
  • Resource abuse: deliberately using CPU, memory, disk or bandwidth in a way that slows the server for others
  • File distribution: file dumps, backup drives, media libraries or torrent trackers, where storage is the main purpose rather than a website
  • Proxies and VPNs: open proxies, anonymising relays, VPN endpoints or Tor nodes
  • IRC and bots: IRC servers, bouncers or automated bot networks
  • Getting around limits: trying to bypass account limits, access other accounts or gain higher privileges

Sending email

Outgoing email is limited to 300 messages per hour for each hosting account, to protect our mail servers' reputation. Further messages are rejected until the limit resets. For newsletters or other high-volume email, use a dedicated email service provider. If you expect an unusual volume, tell us in advance and we'll advise. Marketing email must have a genuine opt-in, an accurate sender identity and a working unsubscribe link.

Keep your software up to date

You must keep your applications, themes and plugins up to date. Outdated software is the most common cause of hacked accounts on shared hosting. A hacked account also puts every other account on the server at risk.

If we find a compromised or dangerously outdated installation, we'll contact you. If the risk is immediate, we'll suspend the affected website until it's fixed.

Fair usage

Your plan's published limits, such as disk space and bandwidth, are your allocation. Shorter-term limits on CPU, memory and processes stop one account from slowing down the others. See Understanding your resource limits.

Shared hosting is for websites. It isn't meant to be used as a file store, media library, backup destination, video encoding service or computing capacity.

If you use more than your plan allows, our first step is always to contact you. A website that has outgrown its plan usually just needs a bigger one. We only suspend an account in two cases: when it's affecting other customers and we can't reach you, and when the over-use is deliberate.

How we enforce the rules

Situation What we do
Minor or accidental breach, with no ongoing harm We contact you and give you reasonable time to fix it
Resource use affecting other customers We contact you and may slow down or stop the process if it continues
Hacked account or active malware We suspend the affected website straight away, then contact you and help you clean it
Phishing, spam campaigns or attacks on others Immediate suspension without notice
Child sexual abuse material Immediate termination, with evidence preserved and reported to the authorities
Repeated breaches after a warning Termination without refund

Accounts terminated for breaching these policies aren't refunded, including lifetime plans.

We'll email you at least 30 days before any material change to these policies takes effect.

Not sure?

If you're not sure whether something is allowed, open a General Enquiries ticket and ask before you set it up. To report something hosted with us, see Reporting abuse, spam or phishing.
