Moving your email to PaduHost

When you move to PaduHost, you'll want your existing email to come with you. Here's how to move it without losing messages.

If we're migrating your website

Our free migration includes your email accounts and email. See Moving your website to PaduHost.

Doing it yourself

  1. Create your email accounts on PaduHost with the same addresses. See Creating an email account.
  2. Copy your existing email. Add both your old account and your new PaduHost account to an email app such as Outlook or Thunderbird, using IMAP. Then drag your folders from the old account to the new one.
  3. Point your domain to PaduHost. New email starts arriving at PaduHost once DNS changes take effect. See Pointing your domain to PaduHost.
  4. Check your old account for a few days. While DNS changes spread, some email may still arrive at your old host. Copy anything new across.
  5. Update your devices with your PaduHost settings. See Email settings for your phone and computer (IMAP, POP3 and SMTP).

Good to know

  • Use IMAP, not POP3, when copying. POP3 only downloads the inbox and may delete email from the server.
  • Large mailboxes can take a long time to copy. Start with your most important folders.
  • Keep your old hosting until you're sure everything has been copied.
