Moving from a cPanel host

Most hosts use cPanel. PaduHost uses DirectAdmin, which can import a full cPanel backup, so moving is usually quick.

The easiest way: let us do it

Migration is free on every plan and covers all the websites on your account and their email. See Moving your website to PaduHost.

Creating a full cPanel backup

If you'd rather send us a backup than your cPanel login:

  1. Log in to cPanel at your current host.
  2. Go to Files > Backup (or Backup Wizard).
  3. Under Full Backup, choose to download a full account backup.
  4. Choose your home directory as the destination and enter your email address.
  5. Start the backup. cPanel emails you when it's ready.
  6. Download the backup file from your cPanel home directory.

Upload the file to a file-sharing service and send us the link in your ticket. Alternatively, upload it to the backups folder of your PaduHost account and let us know.

What moves across

  • website files for your main domain, addon domains and subdomains
  • databases and database users
  • email accounts and email
  • DNS records

What you may need to set up again

  • cron jobs
  • SSL certificates, which we issue free once your domain points to us. See Free SSL certificates (Let's Encrypt).
  • PHP version and settings. See Changing your PHP version and settings.
  • anything specific to cPanel, such as cPanel-only apps or settings

cPanel and DirectAdmin look different, but you'll find the same features. See A quick tour of DirectAdmin.
