Setting up email on Android

These steps use the Gmail app, which is installed on most Android phones. Other email apps, such as Samsung Email, ask for the same details.

You'll need your email address, its password and the settings in Email settings for your phone and computer (IMAP, POP3 and SMTP).

Adding your account in the Gmail app

  1. Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture and tap Add another account.
  2. Tap Other and enter your email address.
  3. Tap Manual setup and choose Personal (IMAP).
  4. Enter your email password and tap Next.
  5. On the incoming server screen, enter:
    • Username: your full email address
    • Server: mail.yourdomain.com
    • Port: 993, with SSL/TLS security, if asked
  6. Tap Next. On the outgoing server screen, keep Require sign-in switched on and enter:
    • Username and Password: the same as above
    • SMTP server: mail.yourdomain.com
    • Port: 465, with SSL/TLS security, if asked
  7. Tap Next, choose how often to check for new email and finish the set-up.

If it doesn't work

  • Check the username is your full email address and the password works in webmail.
  • If you see a certificate warning, use your server hostname from your welcome email as the server instead.
