Resetting your WordPress admin password

Your WordPress login is separate from your Client Area and DirectAdmin logins. If you've forgotten it, use one of these methods.

Method 1: Reset by email

  1. Go to yourdomain.com/wp-login.php.
  2. Click Lost your password? and enter your username or email address.
  3. Click the link in the email WordPress sends you and choose a new password.

If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, then try method 2.

Method 2: Reset in Softaculous

Use this if you installed WordPress with Softaculous and know your admin username.

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin and go to Extra Features > Softaculous Apps Installer.
  2. Open All Installations and click the edit (pencil) icon beside your website.
  3. Under Admin Account, enter your admin username and a new password.
  4. Click Save Installation Details.

Method 3: Reset in phpMyAdmin

  1. In File Manager, open wp-config.php in your website folder and note the DB_NAME value.
  2. Open phpMyAdmin and select that database. See Managing databases with phpMyAdmin.
  3. Open the wp_users table. The wp_ part may be different on your site.
  4. Click Edit on your user's row. Your username is in the user_login column.
  5. In the user_pass row, choose MD5 from the function list and type your new password in the value box.
  6. Click Go.

You can now log in with the new password. WordPress automatically upgrades it to stronger encryption the first time you log in.

Once you're back in, make sure your admin email address is correct under Settings > General. Consider adding two-factor authentication to your WordPress login with a security plugin.
