Installing other apps with Softaculous

As well as WordPress, Softaculous can install hundreds of other free apps in a few clicks. Popular choices include:

Type Examples
Websites and blogs Joomla, Drupal
Online shops PrestaShop, OpenCart
Online learning Moodle
Forums phpBB
Wikis MediaWiki

Installing an app

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
  2. Go to Extra Features and click Softaculous Apps Installer.
  3. Find the app by category or with the search box, then click Install.
  4. Choose https://, your domain and, if you want the app in a folder, a directory name such as shop or forum. Leave the directory blank to install it on your main domain.
  5. Fill in the admin account and any other settings, then click Install.

Managing your apps

Softaculous lists all your installed apps under All Installations. From there you can:

  • upgrade an app to the latest version
  • back up and restore an app
  • clone an app to another domain or folder
  • change the saved admin details
  • remove an app, including its files and database

Good to know

  • Check the app's requirements. Some apps need more resources than others. See Understanding your resource limits.
  • Keep apps up to date. Outdated apps are one of the most common ways websites are hacked.
  • Remove apps you no longer use from All Installations rather than just deleting the files, so the database is removed as well.
