Managing databases with phpMyAdmin

phpMyAdmin lets you view and edit your MySQL databases in your browser. You can use it to browse tables, back up a database or import one from another host.

Opening phpMyAdmin

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
  2. Go to Extra Features and click phpMyAdmin or open it from MySQL Management.
  3. If you're asked to log in, use the database username and password, including your username prefix.

Your databases are listed on the left. Click one to see its tables.

Exporting a database (backup)

  1. Select the database on the left.
  2. Click Export.
  3. Leave the format as SQL and click Export (or Go) to download the file.

Keep a copy before you make big changes, such as updating WordPress or running a plugin that changes the database.

Importing a database

  1. Create an empty database first. See Creating a MySQL database and user.
  2. Select the new database on the left.
  3. Click Import, choose your .sql file and start the import.

The largest file you can import depends on your PHP upload settings. For a larger database, compress the .sql file as .zip or .gz first, or open a Technical Support ticket and we'll help.

Take care when editing. Changes in phpMyAdmin are saved immediately and can't be undone. Export a copy of the database before editing or deleting anything.
