A subdomain is an extra address in front of your domain, such as blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com. It can run a separate website, such as a blog, a shop or a test copy of your site.
Creating a subdomain
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- Go to Account Manager and click Subdomain Management.
- If you have more than one domain, choose the domain first.
- Click Add Subdomain.
- Enter the first part only (for example
blog) and confirm.
DirectAdmin creates a folder for the subdomain inside your main website folder, for example domains/yourdomain.com/public_html/blog. Upload the subdomain's website there or install WordPress on the subdomain with Softaculous.
DNS and SSL
- Using PaduHost's nameservers? The DNS record for the subdomain is created for you. It usually works within a few minutes.
- DNS hosted elsewhere, such as Cloudflare? Add an A record for the subdomain pointing to your server's IP address. See Pointing your domain to PaduHost.
- SSL: make sure your SSL certificate covers the new subdomain. See Free SSL certificates (Let's Encrypt).
Deleting a subdomain
In Subdomain Management, select the subdomain and delete it. You'll be asked whether to delete its folder too. Back up anything you want to keep first.
