File Manager lets you upload, edit and organise your website files in your browser, without an FTP program.
| Folder | What it contains |
|---|---|
domains/yourdomain.com/public_html |
Your website. Files here are visible to visitors. |
domains/yourdomain.com/public_html/blog |
An example subdomain folder, for blog.yourdomain.com |
domains/yourdomain.com/logs |
Archived log files for the domain |
backups |
Backups you've created in DirectAdmin |
imap |
Your email. Don't change files here. |
Permissions control who can read, change or run a file. The right settings for most websites are:
| Item | Permission |
|---|---|
| Folders | 755 |
| Files | 644 |
Configuration files with passwords, such as wp-config.php |
600 or 640 |
Never set a file or folder to 777. It lets anyone change it and is a common way websites get hacked. To change permissions, right-click the item and choose the permissions option.
Before you edit or delete anything, download a copy of the file. There's no undo in File Manager.
