Domains are registered for a set period (usually one year at a time) and need to be renewed before they expire. Domains renew separately from hosting, so each has its own renewal date and invoice.
How renewal works
- Auto-renew is on for new domains. We email you a renewal invoice before your domain expires. The domain is renewed as soon as the invoice is paid.
- If you've set up auto debit with a saved card, the renewal invoice is paid automatically. See Paying an invoice.
- You can see each domain's expiry date in the Client Area under Domains.
- A domain renews at the price on our Domains page at the time of renewal. Our hosting plans renew at the price you signed up for, but that does not cover domain names.
To renew for more than one year at a time, open a Billing ticket.
Turning auto-renew on or off
- Log in to the Client Area and go to Domains.
- Click Manage beside the domain.
- Turn auto-renew on or off and save.
If you turn auto-renew off, we won't send a renewal invoice and your domain will expire on its expiry date. Only turn it off if you no longer need the domain or you're moving it to another registrar.
Don't let an important domain expire. When a domain expires, your website and email stop working. After a short time, the domain can be registered by someone else. See What happens when a domain expires.
